Literature

works by BRITISH AUTHORS

There were three major waves of immigration of Polish people to the British Isles. One in the aftermath of World War II, another one during communist rule in Poland in the 1980s, and finally the most recent one when Poland entered the European Union. The following bibliography lists books by British writers that have been published since 2004 and talk about Polish immigrants in the UK. It is divided thematically, according to the abovementioned migration waves. It presents a whole spectrum of novels and a couple of drama texts. With a large number of immigrants coming to the West, it has also become popular for the local writers to publish memoirs about their stay in Eastern Europe. This is why the section closes with a listing of novels that describe the adventures of British people living and working in Poland. The indexed books help to trace the influence the recent migration wave has had on British literature and the image of Poles in the UK.
