Gruchawka, Ryszard Adam

biography

Ryszard Adam Gruchawka (born in 1950 in Bolesławiec Śląski) is a Polish poet, columnist, author of literature for children and young adults. His poems and short stories appeared in such periodicals as Kultura, Tygodnik Kulturalny or Miesięcznik Literacki. He was honoured with numerous literary awards, including Złota Fregata. He published several books for children, including Bajki z lasu (Forest fables), Bajki drwala Gruchawki (The Woodcutter’s Fables) and Kuferek bajeczek (A Trunk of Fairy-tales). He is the author of poetry books Tylko to jedno (Merely this), Zaczynając się świtem (Beginning at Dawn), and a short story collection Podziemne życie (Underground life). His 2008 novel Buty emigranta (Emigrant shoes) was inspired by his stay in Ireland.
