biography

Lesley Chamberlain (born 1951 in Wessex) is a British journalist, travel writer and historian of German and Russian culture. Her debut book, The Food and Cooking of Russia, was published in London in 1982 by Allen Lane Penguin Books. It has been followed by twelve books, including In the Communist Mirror (1990), The Philosophy Steamer (2006) and Anyone’s Game (2012), and a collection of short stories entitled In a Place Like That (1998). Her first novel, Girl in a Garden (2003), tackles the issue of Polish postwar emigration to the UK.

Chamberlain has also contributed to a number of newspapers and magazines, including The Independent, The Times Literary Supplement or Prospect. She lives and works in London.
