Czechowska, Joanna

biography

Joanna Czechowska (born in Derby) is a British writer and a journalist of Polish origin. Her debut novel, Goodbye Polsko, was initially published in Polish in 2006 under the Media Foran imprint. The English version, The Black Madonna of Derby, was released two years later by Silkmill Press. The novel gives a fictional account of a Polish immigrant family living in the UK in the 1960s and 1970s. The book sparked a lot of interest among readers, which has resulted in creating the sequel, Sweetest Enemy. The novel was published in English in 2012 and continues the story of the family into the 1980s and 1990s. It was nominated for the International Rubery Book Award, one of the most prestigious book awards in the UK for independent and self-published authors.

Joanna Czechowska currently lives in London and works as the chief sub editor and book reviewer for Woman magazine. She is also a member of the Society of Authors.
