Jones, Cynan

biography

Cynan Jones (born 1975 near Aberaeron) is a Welsh prose-writer. His debut novel, The Long Dry, was published in Cardigan in 2006 under the Parthian imprint. It has been followed by Everything I Found on the Beach (2011), which revolves around the story of a Polish emigrant, Grzegorz, struggling to get a foothold in Wales, then Bird, Blood, Snow (2012), the retelling of a medieval Welsh myth, and The Dig (2014).

The author’s first novel won him the Betty Trask Award in 2007, and for The Dig he was awarded the Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Prize in 2014 and shortlisted for the 2013 Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award.

Cynan Jones’ novels were included in numerous anthologies and magazines, such as New Welsh Review and Granta. His story “A Glass of Cold Water” was featured in the State of the Nation series broadcast by BBC4. He lives and works near Aberaeron.
