biography

Marina Lewycka (born 1946 in Kiel) is a British novelist of Ukrainian origin. Her debut novel, A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, was published in London in 2005 by Penguin Books. The book, originally written in English, was later translated into Ukrainian. It was followed by three novels, Two Caravans (2007), We Are All Made of Glue (2009), Various Pets Alive and Dead (2012), and two short stories, The Importance of Having Warm Feet (2009) and Business Philosophy (2009). A Short History of Tractors won Marina Lewycka the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize in 2005, the 2005/6 Waverton Good Read Award, and the Saga Award for Wit in 2005.

Her second novel, Two Caravans (2007), depicts the experiences of a group of migrant workers in England who hail from Eastern Europe (including Poland) and other parts of the world. She has contributed to several publications including The Guardian and The Independent. She is also actively involved in the Age Concern charity which has published her books that give practical advice for caregivers of elderly people.

She lives and works in Sheffield, England.
