Werenowska, Nicola

biography

Nicola Werenowska (born 1971) is a British playwright. She wrote her debut play at the age of 16 and was a runner-up in the 1988 Royal Court Young Playwrights’ Competition. Her first professional play Davy’s Day premiered in 2004 at the Traverse Theatre in Colchester. It has been followed by several other plays including Peapickers (2007), Freedom of the Forest (2008), Birth Date (2012) and Tu i Teraz: Here and Now (2013), the play that focuses on the experiences of Polish migrants in the UK.

Werenowska’s work has been critically acclaimed and shortlisted for several national playwriting competitions, such as the London Writers Competition (2005), Channel 4 The Play’s the Thing (2005), the Churchill Theatre Playwriting Competition (2006), and the Soho Verity Bargate Award (2007).

She lives in Colchester where she works with students suffering from neuro-diverse disorders.
