biography

Chris Binchy (born 1970 in Scotland) is an Irish novelist. His debut novel, The Very Man, was published in London in 2003 by Macmillan. It has been followed by three novels: People Like Us (2004), Open-handed (2008), which depicts the experience of Polish migrants in Ireland, and Five Days Apart (2010). He has also published a novella Lighthouse, as part of the Open Door series. His first novel, The Very Man, was shortlisted for the Hughes & Hughes/Sunday Independent Irish Novel of the Year Award.

Chris Binchy studied English and Spanish at University College Dublin and later graduated with a master’s degree in creative writing at Trinity College Dublin. He worked as an embassy researcher, hotel manager, and later trained as a sushi chef.

He is the nephew of the award-winning Irish novelist Maeve Binchy. He lives and works in Dublin.
