A.M. Bakalar (born in 1975 in Wrocław) is a Polish novelist writing in English. Her debut novel, Madame Mephisto, was published in London in 2012 by Stork Press. The novel tells a story of a woman, Magda, who emigrates to the UK to become a drug dealer. Her book was longlisted for the Guardian First Book Award 2012. The author also published a short story Whatever Makes You Sleep at Night in 2013 in Wasafiri literary magazine.

A.M. Bakalar is a co-founder of Stork Press, an independent London publishing house, which publishes and promotes new writing from Central and Eastern Europe. She lives and works in London.
