biography

Iwona Macałka (born 1970 in Stary Sącz) is a Polish writer and teacher. Her debut, Moja podróż przez życie (My Journey through Life), based on her adventures in London was published in Łódź by Piktor (2008). It has been followed by Indyjska przygoda (An Indian Adventure, 2011), the author’s account of her trip to India, and a book for children Misiaczka Rozalia na afrykańskim safari (Rouzanna Bear Goes on an African Safari, 2009).

Iwona Macałka used to work in The Helcels Nursing Home and then in John Paul II Hospital in Cracow. She left Poland for Paris in 1994 and a few years later she moved to London where she worked in a nursery. Then, she graduated with a BA degree from Kingston University in 2007 and got a teaching job in a primary school. She lives and works in London.
