biography

Agata Wawryniuk (born 1987 in Chełm) is a Polish graphic designer, illustrator and cartoonist. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. Her debut graphic novel Rozmówki polsko-angielskie (Polish-English Phrasebook), was published in Warsaw in 2012 by kultura gniewu. The story is based on the author’s personal experiences when she migrated with her friends to England in search of work. The book attracted a lot of media and critical attention and won her a number of awards, including the Best Comic Book Prize 2012 at Łódź International Festival of Comics and Games, the Polish Comics Association Award for the Best Polish Comic Book in 2012/2013 and the Hiro Magazine Award.

The author contributed to a wide variety of comic books, such as Biceps – 1 (2010), Biceps – 2 (2011), Biceps – 3 (2011), and Polski Komiks Kobiecy (Polish Female Comics, 2012).
